Individual Variability
Hydration needs vary significantly between individuals due to factors that our calculator cannot account for:
- Medical conditions: Kidney disease, heart failure, liver disease, diabetes insipidus, SIADH, adrenal insufficiency, thyroid disorders
- Medications: Diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, NSAIDs, lithium, chemotherapy, laxatives

Accuracy of Calculations

- Formulas involve rounding and simplification for usability
- JavaScript floating-point arithmetic may introduce minimal rounding differences

Danger of Overhydration (Hyponatremia)
Following any hydration guideline excessively can cause hyponatremia (dangerously low blood sodium), which can be fatal. Symptoms include:
- Nausea, vomiting, headache
- Confusion, disorientation, irritability
- Seizures, coma
- In severe cases: brain herniation, death
Drink to thirst. Do not force fluids beyond comfort. Monitor urine color (pale yellow = good).
